Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation trial could have involved even more mudslinging.

While the exes hurled all kinds of accusations at each other in court, a verdict both are now appealing, recently unsealed court documents show it could have been worse. More than 6,000 pages of pretrial documents were unsealed over the weekend and analyzed by news outlets including the Daily Beast and Entertainment tonight. Among the revelations is that Depp’s legal team wanted nude photos of Heard as evidence and mentions that she had allegedly briefly been an exotic dancer. Heard’s lawyers wanted to include that Depp was allegedly taking medication for erectile dysfunction, arguing that it was central to Heard’s allegations of sexual assault against him. The judge ruled it inadmissible — and that was just the beginning.

Depp’s team made efforts to enter a portion of his medical records into evidence. Heard’s team tried to introduce a medical list as evidence, saying he took Valtrex, commonly used to treat herpes virus infections, and Cialis, which can treat erectile dysfunction and an enlarged prostate.

Hurd’s team argued that the Pirates of the Caribbean The actor’s “erectile dysfunction is related to Mr. Depp’s use of a bottle to” sexually assault Heard, which was one of the allegations in the lawsuit. They claimed that the condition “may in some ways be a motivation for abuse”. His lawyers argued it was an attempt to embarrass Depp and accused Heard of trying to create “a circus” and “slide this trial down a series of needlessly malicious rabbit holes.”

On the other hand, Heard’s lawyers objected to an attempt by Depp’s team to enter into evidence “irrelevant personal matters”, including “nude photos” of Aquaman actor.

Unrelated matters also included his team’s claim, which centered on Amber’s “brief stint as an exotic dancer years before she met Mr. Depp,” according to her team, “and Mr. Depp casually and maliciously attempted to suggest or to imply that Ms. Heard was in the one-time escort.”

Heard’s lawyers also claimed that Depp’s side was also trying to highlight Amber and her sister Whitney’s past romantic relationships and use the death of Amber’s friend, which happened when she was a teenager, against her.

The documents also showed text messages between Depp and his controversial girlfriend Marilyn Manson, which his lawyer fought to rule out could “implicate Mr. Depp as guilty by association.” Manson has been accused of abuse by many people, including Evan Rachel Wood. He denied the charges.

One text from Manson to Depp in 2016 reportedly read: “Got an orange 2.0,” while another said: “Lindsey just pulled [sic] an Amber on me… please delete.” (Manson is married to Lindsay Usich.)

Depp responded, “I’ve been reading A LOT of stuff about this and the sociopathic behavior…it’s real bro!! My ex is a damn TEXT BOOK!!!”

There were also exhibits of texts that Depp’s then-assistant, Stephen Deuters, allegedly sent to Heard in 2014, including one that said, “I’m sorry she has no better way of truly knowing the seriousness of his actions yesterday. Unfortunately for me, I remember them fully, in all the details, everything that happened, he freaked out, when I told him he kicked you, he cried.” Also, a subsequent message from Depp to Heard later said, “Once again, I’m in a place of shame and remorse . Of course I’m sorry… I’ll never do it again… My illness somehow creeps up and got me… I feel so bad that I let you down.’

These texts, which were used in Depp’s 2020 libel trial in the UK, were not admissible in the libel trial because they were not found on Depp’s iCloud and were deemed “missing”.

The trial — originating from Heard’s Washington Post Posting about being a “public figure representing domestic abuse” — it’s been a wild ride with accusations galore. Heard accused Depp of physical abuse and sexual assault, and disputed the allegations of physical abuse, saying she was to blame for his cut finger. Then there were accusations like his of putting human excrement on their bed after an argument. He blamed their dogs.

On June 1, the jury awarded Depp $10.35 million, while Heard, who had sued him for defamatory comments made by his lawyer, was awarded $2 million. Heard appealed the verdict – and Depp has since sued.
