Holiday Haunt’ was canceled at Warner Bros. Amid a cost-savings push

In a surprising development, Warner Bros. will no longer be released Bat girl, the DC movie that has already wrapped filming and was expected to arrive on HBO Max this year. The unusual move comes after a change in leadership at Warners, with newly installed Warner Bros. Major cuts along the way for the conglomerate include streaming service CNN+, which cost $300 million before pulling the plug a month after launch, and JJ Abrams’ expensive HBO original Demimondewhich aimed to have a budget of over $200 million.

Meanwhile, HBO Max has narrowed its programming focus area to original, stylish The Gordita Chronicles after only one season, as part of a strategic move away from live-action programming for kids and family. Linear networks under Warner Bros’ Discovery umbrella, such as TNT and TBS, have also had originals cut in recent months.

Under Kilar, Warners broke the theatrical window, sending the 2021 day-and-date to HBO Max in a one-year experiment. Now, Zaslav seems to be building an overall picture to emphasize the importance of theatrical over streaming when it comes to original films.
