Cracker Barrel unveils plant-based sausage
Plant-based foods being introduced as part of classic menu items or as new stand-alone products are not unheard of. McDonalds (MCD) – Get the McDonald’s Corporation report launched McPlant in partnership with Beyond Meet (BYND) – Report Get Beyond Meat Incwhich was a product trial that ended on August 1, 2022.
Other companies like Burger King (QSR) – Get the Restaurant Brands International Inc. report sell the Impossible Whopper in partnership with Impossible Foods. Both Beyond and Impossible items can be taken to select grocery stores for consumption.

Barrel of firecrackers (CBRL) – Download Report Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc decided to join this trend by releasing its first plant-based meat option in collaboration with Impossible Foods: the Impossible Sausage.
The American restaurant chain added the product to its breakfast menu after testing at 50 different Cracker Barrel locations. Cracker Barrel’s Sara Breymaier, director of Menu Strategy, sees this new product as an achievement: “Our new breakfast menu innovations provide a personalized experience with delicious breakfast options to satisfy every taste – whether guests are homesick for home cooking, whether they’re thirsty for a nutritious plant-based option or craving a sweet treat. Morning, noon or night, we want guests to enjoy delicious breakfast favorites at an exciting value.”
The product will be sold along with fried apples, hash browns and grits (if desired). It will also be included in the all-day breakfast menu.

Faces reaction with a barrel of firecrackers
A few days after the announcement, people heard about the change and Cracker Barrel’s tweets and Facebook comments began to circulate.

Most of the responses were negative, either berating those upset about the release, being upset about the release, or discussing the controversy with Cracker Barrel itself.
Many people, however, have expressed their hatred for Cracker Barrel now that it has released plant-based alternatives. This hatred of veganism and vegetarianism has drawn amusement from other readers as well.
One user said, “Don’t ever try to push this crap in my direction. Stick to the basics that made your franchise a success,” “Are you kidding me? Who do you think your customer base is? I still order the double breakfast with meat and it’s no longer on the menu.”
Another also commented, saying: “You just lost your customer base, congrats on waking up and breaking…”
Others scoff at those upset about the plant-based sausage, describing it as an odd choice considering other bigger issues Cracker Barrel has been accused of in years past. The chain has been sued in the past for racial and gender discrimination, on which it officially changed its stance in 2016, now promoting an all-inclusive hiring policy.
While there were plenty of people who seemed outraged at the mere suggestion that Cracker Barrel would dare to be subtle with its non-meat-eating customers, some seemed excited about the addition of the new Impossible Sausage:
