Positive surfer Elizabeth Sneed took to the streets of New York with nothing but a bikini and her long board to make a statement about athletes with curves.

The content creator, known online as Curvy Surfer Girl, has gained more than 126,000 followers on TikTok as a result of posting a video of herself hitting the waves of Honolulu, Hawaii. And while surfing is a sport she just enjoys sharing, her page has since inspired people of all sizes to try something they dread.

On June 15, she took her board and mission even further as she arrived in Times Square to reveal her body and her message.

“I want people to know that curvy women are surfers and athletes,” Sneed wrote in a video shared on social media. “What better place than New York to show the world.”

Waving a hot pink bikini, the surfer made her way through the busy streets of the city to find her light for a few shots with her long board. Even as people passed by, she hoped her message was clear.

“I chose Times Square to represent the changing eras of women’s beauty standards,” she wrote.

Sneed also made a statement about the choice of her bikini as she announced her new role as the brand’s ambassador and consultant for the JOLYN swimwear design team.

“I will be in shape to try out the collection, consult the designs and finally design and launch the Curvy Surfer Girl collection in 2023,” he wrote in another Instagram post. “It’s been 2 years in the works and together we really started to change the tide!”

In a statement to Yahoo Life, JOLYN CEO Mondy Herndon praised Sneed’s work, saying it helped “change the perception of the surfer’s body type”. The brand is also committed to providing a wider range of tools for surfers and athletes.

Sneed added: “I’m excited to be at their side launching a new generation of women surfing. Working with the design team to create more inclusive high-performance swimming is a dream come true not only for me but for the countless women who they love water and need support suits to follow their passions ”.

Although the range of inclusive surfing equipment has not just been released, Sneed has been praised for what it has done so far in representing the athletes who pursue their dreams despite strict beauty standards – including her stunning photos.

“My inner little girl is so grateful to you,” one person commented in Sneed’s Times Square posts. “Thank you for everything you do.”

Another wrote: “I love this and what it does for our surf culture.”

While Sneed helps others fulfill their dreams, she can only acknowledge that she lives her own.

“This is a moment that will live in my heart forever and ever! I have tears in my eyes because I am VERY GRATEFUL & PLEASED that every person here shares this moment with me! I love you so much!” she wrote. “LET’S GO CURVY SURFER GIRLS 🥳 the sky is literally the limit!”
